Nordic cooperation to promote patient safety
The Nordic Group for Healthcare Personnel met in a virtual meeting chaired by Valvira on Friday 7 May. Matters discussed at the meeting included how to apply the EU Directive on the recognition of professional qualifications in the various countries. Professional qualifications in health care obtained in any Nordic country are recognised in the other Nordic countries in accordance with the Directive.
The Nordic Group for Healthcare Personnel is a collaborative body whose purpose is to promote patient safety by enhancing information exchange and by removing unnecessary boundaries between the Nordic countries. In practice, this information exchange concerns matters such as regulated health care professions in the various countries and supervisory data. The Group meets twice a year.
The members of the Group are experts involved in dealing with the right to practise in health care professions at Valvira in Finland and at corresponding supervisory authorities in the other Nordic countries. This meeting was attended by the regular members and also representatives of Åland, the Faroe Islands and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Finland holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2021. Joint meetings of Nordic supervisory authorities are chaired by Valvira.
