Processing of professional practice rights delayed due to Valvira’s organisational changes and moving premises

10.12.2015 15:53 / News

If you are applying for licensing, be ready to expect longer processing times than usual with regard to both domestic and foreign applications. The longer processing times are caused by major changes ongoing at Valvira that have an impact on the professional practice rights process, Valvira's move to new premises on 18 December 2015 (new address: Mannerheimintie 103 b, POB 210, 00281 Helsinki) and the high number of students graduating at the end of the year. Processing the applications of professionals graduated in Finland usually takes two or three weeks. Processing the applications of professionals graduated abroad usually takes three or four months from the date all necessary documents have been submitted to Valvira.

Calling us or sending us queries about the processing times of applications only delay the process more, so please try and avoid that. If necessary, we will ask you to complement your application. We will process the applications in the order of arrival and, unfortunately, cannot accept any requests for expedited processing.

When the professional practice right has been granted, data on the licensing and protected occupational title will be available at the Central Register of Health Care Professionals JulkiTerhikki the following day. You will receive the written decision document later by post. A person whose data is available at JulkiTerhikki has the licence to practice their profession even if they have not received the written decision yet.

A health care professional graduated in Finland may practice their profession with student rights for 30 days before licensing. Valvira recommends, however, that you apply for licensing right after graduation.

Valvira will only send the decision document and invoice for the professional practice right to those who have applied for the licensing. The decision document and invoice may arrive by post separately.
