Licensing
Valvira is the national licensing authority for social welfare and health care in Finland and licensing forms the basis of Valvira’s proactive supervision. All businesses subject to licence and persons practicing a profession must apply for a licence or report their activity to Valvira for register. This enables Valvira to reach all persons under its jurisdiction for guidance, supervision, inspection or notification.
We at Valvira grant the following licenses:
Professional licenses for persons in healthcare occupations
- Licence to practice medicine (e.g. doctors)
- Protected occupational titles and fixed-term licenses
- Licensing of household and pool water hygiene testers
Business licenses
- Licensing of the production, import, wholesale and consumption of alcohol
- National licenses for private healthcare providers
Licences relating to health and research
- Authorisation for certain abortions and sterilisations
- Scientific research licences
- Licences to provide assisted fertility treatment under Act of Assisted Fertility Treatments
- Licences for tissue and embryology research
- Licences related to genetic engineering
Medical devices and supplies
- Supervision of manufacture, marketing and safe usage of medical devices and supplies
